UK Volleyball continues winning ways

The Cats are coming on strong after back-to-back sweeps of Louisville and Chattanooga.

After a huge victory over Louisville on Friday, head coach Craig Skinner and the UK Volleyball team continued their winning ways with a sweep against Chattanooga, winning the first set by a score of 25-14, the second 25-16, and the third and final set by a score of 25-17.

While it was my first volleyball experience, it did not take long to realize just why this team is so good. Sophomore setter Madison Lilley led the Cats with 28 assists and 10 digs, while junior outside hitter Leah Edmond led with 10 kills.

Coach Skinner said he was pleased with the team’s performance overall, but knows there are still things to work on as they head into conference play.

“I told the team I was pleased – offensively, they were very efficient – only seven hitting errors today and six on Friday,” Skinner said. “That’s a very low number for six sets combined. Defense is really an area we’ve been putting time and energy into. Holding opponents to under .100 – really excited as a coaching staff moving forward.”

Junior Caitlyn Cooper contributed eight kills, while sophomore Avery Skinner chipped in with seven, and senior Brooke Morgan added six on a .625 clip and had a pair of blocks.

The Cats begin conference play on Sunday September 22 at Tennessee, and the SEC home opener will be Friday September 29 against Arkansas.
