Sunday Quickies: Murray State Beatdown Edition

UK does what they needed to do against Murray State, Benny Snell ready for the next challenge, Lynn Bowden has a message, and the Cardinals stink.

Jason Marcum - Sea of Blue

There were some pretty simple goals for yesterday's game vs. the Murray State Racers: Win by a lot, rest your starters, see what the reserves can do, nobody gets hurt.

Mission accomplished on all fronts.

The Kentucky Wildcats 48-10 win over the in-state Racers is exactly the kind of performance that the coaches wanted to see after an emotional victory over the Florida Gators. There was understandably an early hangover but it didn’t take long for the Cats to get rolling and pile on the points.

Next up the Mississippi State Bulldogs will be at Kroger Field and the Cats will have their work cut out for them as this will be the most difficult test of the young season.

Tweets of the Day

There’s a lot going on in this play but the one thing that stood out to me is that the defenses are going to take Terry Wilson as a serious threat when Benny Snell or AJ Rose is in the Wildcat.

What a pathetic showing for the Big Ten.

Quickies

Benny Snell is ready for the challenge | WDRB- The Kentucky running back is ready for a big time challenge against MSU. He does a good job of coming off confident yet not overly cocky.

Back up QB snaps could prove vital | Courier-Journal- Both Danny Clark and Gunnar Hoak both got to see minutes at quarterback and both got into the endzone. It’s good to have that reassurance in case something happens to Terry Wilson.

Lynn Bowden tells ESPN to believe the hype | Cats Pause- Despite being 3-0 with a win on the road in the SEC the Cats still have plenty of doubters. Lynn Bowden has a message for them: You better start believing.

Week 3 overreactions | Saturdays Down South- We have seen Kentucky start like this in the past... but not really. The win at Florida and the fact that Terry Wilson is a gamer changes everything.

8. Did we sleep on Kentucky?

I know, I know, the Wildcats have started like this before, too.

They were 5-1 in 2014 — one play from beating Florida and being 6-0. They were 4-1 in 2015 — one play from beating Florida and being 5-0. They were 5-1 in 2017 — one play from beating Florida and being 6-0.

They are 3-0 in 2018 — and already have beaten Florida.

This feels different. For all of the preseason questions about Terry Wilson, he looks like a guy Oregon would recruit, you know, back when Oregon was actually good, too.

I’m beginning to believe they could be 7-1 (and ranked) when they host Georgia in Week 10. If they are, that also would mean they have 5 SEC wins, guaranteeing their first winning SEC record since 1977.

Stoops breaks down Murray State win | Cats Illustrated- Coach was very pleased with the victory and he was very pleased with the young guys that played. At one point 10 true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were on the field at the same time. And they looked pretty good.

Lynn Bowden and Terry Wilson are developing chemistry | Cats Pause- Bowden is turning into Terry Wilson’s primary receiver. Both players have emerged as major forces for the offense.

UofL holds off disaster to be WKU by 3 | Courier-Journal- The last game on the schedule doesn’t look as daunting as we may have thought. The Cards are 2-1 but they have looked absolutely dreadful in all three games that they have played but they’ve been full of excuses.

  1. You can’t tell anything about the team because of Alabama.
  2. You can’t really tell anything about the team in a lackluster game vs. Indiana State because of the rain.

Yesterday the weather was perfect and they didn’t play Alabama yet they were down for the majority of the game vs. an 0-3 WKU team.

Browns cutting ties with Josh Gordon | ESPN- The latest setback for the talented but embattled receiver was not a substance abuse issue. He injured his hamstring. At a photoshoot. The Browns have had enough and they will try to unload him on another team.

AP top 25 poll prediction | CBS- LSU takes the biggest jump after their last second field goal victory at Auburn. No Kentucky yet but that will change if they beat Mississippi State.
