Anthony Davis gives E.J. Montgomery advice on playing at Kentucky

Former players continue to come back to Lexington and show love to the program.

E.J. Montgomery is no stranger to being surrounded by elite talent. In high school while playing at Montverde Academy he was teammates with Ben Simmons.

But it was Anthony Davis that Montgomery grew up idolizing. So much in fact, that he is going wear #23 this season in tribute of Davis.

In a great segment on CoachCal.com you can watch a video of Davis giving advice to Montgomery about what it is like to play at the University of Kentucky.

“It’s not easy, it’s not easy to win here. You know…. fans are loyal, great fan base. Cal is gonna push you, KP’s gonna push you. But it’s the best thing you can ask for. It bettered me as a player, as a person, as a teammate, there’s nothing like it.” Davis told Montgomery sitting at center court in the Joe Craft Center.

Former players who are now NBA stars continue to give back to the program and John Calipari. This weekend when James Wiseman, maybe the top player in the country, was on campus it was no coincidence that Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Davis delivered something pretty epic to Lexington.

Now, Davis is taking Montgomery under his wing and providing mentorship. It can be easy to forget about E.J. Montgomery because of his absence during the Big Blue Bahamas tour due to injury. But he is a legitimate option to start for Kentucky this season. His ability to finish around the rim and rebound should be valuable assets.

Can you imagine a line-up on the court that includes P.J. Washington, Reid Travis, and E.J. Montgomery? Good luck blocking them out.

Shout out to Anthony Davis for providing valuable advice to a young player who is loaded with potential.
