Kentucky is getting back in the race for Isaiah Stewart, as John Calipari is visiting the five-star big man along with five-star wing Keion Brooks, according to Evan Daniels.
Stewart is the No. 5 player in the class of 2019 and the No. 3 center by 247 Sports’ rankings. Stewart stands 6-9, 245 pounds. The Rochester (NY) has 42 offers. Duke, Louisville, UCLA, Florida and Tennessee are among the top schools to have offered thus far. The Duke Blue Devils are currently the favorite in Stewart’s crystal ball.
As expected with a player Stewart’s size, he can play very well down low. He has a strong low-post presence on offense, he can finish above the rim, and he can pass out of the post. He’s a beast on the boards and likely will be a one-and-done in college.
Stewart is arguably the most balanced big man in this class, and he’s put himself in the same tier as James Wiseman and Vernon Carey with his big summer.
Wiseman is the only other ‘center’ who has received an offer from Kentucky in the class of 2019., though Carey is fully capable of playing the 5 in college. It will be interesting to see if Kentucky is going to make a bigger push for Stewart and possibly offer him a scholarship.
As for Brooks, Kentucky has already offered and continues to recruit him, though Indiana is now viewed as the big favorite with Michigan State trailing. It was previously reported that Calipari was going to visit Brooks this week.
It’s unclear whether Stewart and/or Brooks will wait until the spring or decide this fall. Ideally, it’s the spring if Kentucky is going to make a push for either player, as they seem to have fallen pretty far behind for both players.
