It’s only August, but college basketball is finally back.
We got to see it start off with the Kentucky Wildcats beating the Bahamas National Team, 85-61.
The Wildcats started out the game by going on a 13-0 run behind the efforts of sophomore Nick Richards. Richards had a tremendous game (19 points), and he showed us why last season Coach Cal pushed so hard for him to grow his game.
The other returning sophomore, PJ Washington, was great on both ends as well. PJ was also facilitating the ball very well all around the floor.
Ashton Hagans and Keldon Johnson showed the national stage just how athletic they really are. Tyler Herro was absolutely astonishing, finishing with 16 points on 55% shooting from the field. Reid Travis, however, was a bit rusty on the offensive end (2/9 FG), but he attacked the boards all night grabbing 14 rebounds.
We should expect some growth and great things out of this team. This is going to be a fun season. Now let’s take a look at what Coach Cal had to say after watching the game from a spot other than courtside, courtesy of UK Athletics:
