After the commitment of Dontaie Allen Kentucky is in full fledge force in this current recruiting stretch. The newest player that John Calipari and company seem to be after belongs to the 2020 class.
One of the top overall recruits in the 2020 class, RJ Hampton is a fully-loaded scorer at the guard spot at 6’4” and is a Texas native. He’s also someone that could reclassify into the Class of 2019, so it only makes sense for Kentucky to ramp up this recruitment.
According to Hampton’s personal blog on USA Today, Kentucky is doing just that.
“I would definitely say that Kentucky is coming on stronger and Memphis is too. I just hear from both of those schools more than I had been and they were at almost all of my games in Vegas,” said Hampton. I still haven’t heard directly from Coach Cal, but I’ve heard from Coach Penny a lot more.”
Hampton also included Duke, Kansas, Texas, and TCU as other teams that are still going hard for him. He then added some rather creative ways that schools have been spoiling him during his recruiting process.
“The coaches from Michigan sent me a gif of me on Fortnite and Texas sent me a pic of me as Drake on the new ‘Scorpion’ album and it said ‘Texas 2020.’” said Hampton.
Hampton is currently the #3 player in ESPN’s high school recruiting rankings for 2020. Kentucky fans should also be keeping an eye out for 2019 small forward Khalil Whitney, who is expected to announce his collegiate decision in the coming weeks.
