Where UK targets stand in USA Today 2019 class recruiting rankings

Tyrese Maxey has nearly caught up to James Wiseman.

It seems all of the recruiting websites are updating their Class of 2019 rankings this week, the latest being USA Today.

Their new Chosen 25 rankings for 2019 feature a host of Kentucky Wildcats commitment sand targets, including Tyrese Maxey climbing all the way to No. 6. Not far behind him is fellow Kentucky commit Kahlil Whitney at No. 10.

If you’re keeping score, that means 247 Sports, ESPN and now USA Today have those two ranked as top-10 commitments in the Class of 2019, and it’s possible one or both of them climb even higher before it’s all said and done.

One Kentucky recruit not moving up is James Wiseman, who actually tumbled down to No. 4 here. Cole Anthony (1), Vernon Carey Jr. (2), Isaiah Stewart (3) made up the top three spots. Kentucky is still in the running for Anthony and Carey, while Stewart recently cut the Wildcats from his list.

While I do think Wiseman is the No. 1 prospect in terms of his long-term outlook in college and the NBA, I do think there’s a good case to be made that guys like Anthony, Carey and even Maxey will make bigger impacts in their likely one year in college basketball.

But in the end, I think Wiseman will be the better player in the NBA as he continues to develop and harness his immense potential.

Other Kentucky targets in this ranking include Jaden McDaniels (5), Matthew Hurt (7), Bryan Antoine (9), Scottie Lewis (15) and Keion Brooks (20). Former Kentucky target Jalen Lecque snuck in to the No. 23 spot.

Not making this list were Kentucky recruits Dontaie Allen, Aidan Igiehon, Oscar Tshiebwe and Kofi Cockburn.
