Good morning Big Blue Nation and welcome to the weekend!
The NCAA March Madness twitter page has been running a poll that pits the best basketball players from each program. Kentucky somehow ended up being a two seed with the lineup of John Wall, Tony Delk, Tayshaun Prince, Demarcus Cousins, and Anthony Davis. Yes. A two seed.
They made it all the way to the finals of the twitter poll and are facing off against the all-time Florida Gators squad with Al Horford, Bradley Beal, Chandler Parsons, Joakim Noah, and Erving Walker.
The Cats are currently leading by a healthy margin of 61% to 39%. There are two days left to vote in the poll so head over to @marchmadness on twitter to vote!
Quickies
Dan Dakich thinks Kentucky has enough to win the title | Cats Pause- The analyst that we all love to hate was thoroughly impressed with the Cats in the Bahamas. He was particularly impressed with Nick Richards, PJ Washington, and Quade Green.
Assessing 2018 Kentucky football | The Red and Black- Kentucky is trying for a third consecutive bowl game with key home games against Georgia, Mississippi State, and South Carolina.
Kentucky makes cut for two defensive linemen | Cats Pause- Isaiah Gibson and JJ Weaver are two of Mark Stoops’ biggest defensive targets. Weaver is out of Louisville Moore high school.
UK Women’s Soccer opens season with win | UK Athletics- Yuuka Kurosaki scored the game winning goal to secure a 2-1 win over Southern Illinois Edwardsville in their first game of the season. They play the Little Rock Trojans tomorrow at 2:00 PM.
Louisville powerhouses St. X and Trinity both lose on opening night | Courier Journal- The St. X Tigers lost to the Desales Colts 19-16 and the Trinity Rocks were defeated by Carmel (IN) 24-21. The last time both teams lost on the same night was in 2015.
Kentucky high school football scores | Max Preps- Check out the scores from last night’s games and see if your favorite team won. There are more games to check out today and this evening.
Bobby Petrino makes a BOLD prediction | USA Today- Yesterday at the UofL football kickoff luncheon, head coach Bobby Petrino raised some eyebrows with this statement, “But I’m going to tell you this: If we can get where we have every single guy on our team, every single coach on our team, to believe like I believe — because I believe we’re gonna go beat ’em — so I need everybody else to believe that. And we will go beat ’em.”
I’m all about believing in your team but Nick Saban isn’t the bear to poke. This statement by Petrino and the statements made by receiver Dez Fitzpatrick, the Tide have plenty of bulletin board material.
Zach Smith saga at OSU gets...weird | ESPN- Smith has already been accused of being a spouse abuser and his job, along with Urban Meyer’s, is on the line. Now there are reports of Smith ordering multiple...um...toys at the OSU football facility and that he took nude selfies at the White House.
JJ Reddick may have witnessed a child abduction | CBS- Reddick told the story to Mo Bamba and stated that he saw a small human, possibly a child, in a cage in the back of a vehicle that he took as a cab. The details were reported to the FBI.
Mr. Robot to end after season 4 | The Wrap- The popular USA series looks like it’s coming to an end. I thought season one was some of the most original, best TV I had seen in a while. Then season two went completely off the rails and I haven’t watched since. Maybe I’ll catch up.
