Kentucky Football makes the cut for pair of 2019 defensive linemen

It is apparently list-cutting season in the college football world.

Players from the 2019 class (and some from 2020) are narrowing down their search and taking a step toward a college commitment.

In the last 24 hours, Kentucky has made the final list for two defenders that could come in and make an immediate impact.

4-star defensive end JJ Weaver announced his final six on Thursday. The Louisville native has offers from several top schools, and Kentucky has made it to what appears to be the final list before he makes his decision this fall.

Weaver’s list includes the Wildcats, Louisville, Miami (FL), Tennessee, Purdue, and Cincinnati. He has already visited Kentucky twice this year, but it seems like Miami has only recently gotten involved and of course being from Louisville the Cardinals are a strong threat.

At 6’6”, Weaver is marketed as a pass-rushing defensive end but could also end up seeing some time at outside linebacker wherever he lands.

On Thursday, 3-star defensive tackle announced that he will choose between Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, Michigan State, Minnesota, Purdue, and Wisconsin.

While Wisconsin is currently the favorite according to 247Sports, being a Ohio recruit without any Ohio schools on his list is pretty encouraging. Vince Marrow’s track record is strong in those situations, so the fact that Kentucky made this final list should be encouraging that the Wildcats have a shot with the 6’4”, 298 lb. run stopper.

It seems like the Kentucky coaching staff is in a good spot for both of these recruits. Only time will tell if they are able to close the deal.
