Anthony Davis has been one of the top players in the NBA since he entered the league after winning a championship at Kentucky. But over the last couple of years, Davis has really jumped into the top tier, only being rivaled by players like Steph Curry, James Harden, LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Davis has recently been a legitimate NBA MVP contender.
That’s expected to be the case again next year, as Davis has the second-highest odds to win the NBA MVP Award next year, according to Bovada.
Davis’ odds are +400, and the only player with better odds is LeBron James at +333. That’s thanks in part to the fact that Davis averaged a career high 28.1 points per game last year, and almost single handedly led the New Orleans Pelicans to a four-game sweep of the Portland Trailblazers in the playoffs.
Without DeMarcus Cousins, Davis has a legitimate shot at a scoring title next year as well. He’ll be the No. 1 scoring option with a big gap between him and the next-best Pelican.
Davis, a five-time NBA All-Star, is also in line to receive the largest contract in NBA history the next time he hits free agency.
There are several other Wildcats in the top 30 for the MVP odds list. Karl-Anthony Towns has +5,000 odds, John Wall has +8,000 odds, DeMarcus Cousins has +15,000 odds and Devin Booker has +27,500 odds.
