Former Kentucky star Kevin Knox has his eyes set on guiding his New York Knicks to the playoffs, and he sure isn’t losing sleep seeing the worlds best player leave the Eastern Conference.
Knox sees ’s LeBron James leaving for the Lakers as an open slot for the Knicks to jump into the playoff picture.
Here’s what Knox had to say, via ESPN 1005:
“For me, I was like, ‘Yeah, get out of the East!’ ... You got a lot of young guys out in [LA] LeBron’s going to help them out, get to the playoffs. What a great city for him to go to, but I’m glad he’s out of the East.”
The Knicks finished 29-53 a year ago 14 games back of the Washington Wizards for the Eastern Conference finals final playoff spot.
Despite the fact, the Knicks have lots of improving to do to jump into the playoffs Knox, and the Knicks, however, have some reason to feel optimistic.
They should be getting their top player Kristaps Porzingis back from injury, Tim Hardaway Jr is expected to be healthy, they added Mario Hezonja and of course are ecstatic about their first-round selection in Knox.
The former Kentucky star turned heads in summer league as he averaged over 21 points per game in four summer league appearances.
The Cavaliers almost certainly will be leaving an open playoff spot with LeBron going West.
Only Kevin Love remains out of their big three of Kyrie Irving, and LeBron James and the team has gone into a rebuild mode.
With the Cavs out of the picture, the Eastern Conference is wide open outside of the Celtics, Raptors, and 76ers. Kevin Knox has his eyes on helping the Knicks get to the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
