Kentucky Wildcats Quickies: Beat Team Toronto Edition

Cats wallop Mega Bemax, Keldon Johnson loves to talk trash, Mark Stoops unhappy with practice, and Tiger’s back!

The Kentucky Wildcats will close out their Bahamas trip tonight at 4:00 PM on the SEC network. They will take on Team Toronto and go for 4-0.

Last night they dispatched the Serbian pro team Mega Bemax with ease. Six Wildcats ended the night in double figures led by PJ Washington with 20 points and 12 rebounds. The Cats ended up winning 100-64 against a team that many had Kentucky losing to when this schedule came out.

I know it’s August and it’s hard to gauge how good the opposition really is; but it’s really hard to not get excited about what we are seeing. The one standout to me has been how competitive these guys are. They don’t just want to beat teams. They want to destroy them.

Quickies

Language barrier doesn’t stop Keldon Johnson from trash talking | Lexington Herald Leader- The fiery Kentucky wing doesn’t back down from anyone and he’ll let you know about it. He had some words for Mega Bemax last night and although they may not have understood everything he said, they understood enough.

What we learned vs. Mega Bemax | Courier-Journal- The number one takeaway is the defense. The Cats have vastly improved in that area since the first game on Wednesday night. And the scary part is this team will get better on defense.

10 thoughts on Kentucky’s win | Cats Illustrated- Justin Rowland breaks down the game and highlights that this team has a chance to be better than anyone thought. It’s going to be a fun year, folks.

Mark Stoops unhappy with Football scrimmage | Cats Pause- It’s not fall camp until Mark Stoops comes out with a pissed off statement about his team’s performance.

I thought it was just not good enough today,” Stoops said on Saturday. “Not a good enough scrimmage. I really was disappointed to be honest with you. The overall scrimmage, just in general, I felt like it was a bit flat. I expected more out of these guys across the board. I felt like we were just sloppy. We had some pre-snap penalties that hurt some drives offensively. We had some drops. Late in the scrimmage we put the ball on the ground. Defensively, just average. Felt like it was just average across the board. I didn’t really see exceptional play from either side. I just felt like it was good enough to be average today. Really not what we’re looking for.”

To be fair the offense was playing without Benny Snell (calf strain) and AJ Rose (funeral).

What is Kentucky football’s defining tradition? | Lexington Herald Leader- College football is steeped in tradition. Ohio State dots the “i”, Auburn flys the War Eagle, Clemson touches the rock. What does Kentucky do?

Tiger Woods tied for sixth heading into Sunday at the PGA | ESPN- Is Tiger Woods back? Not all the way. Unless he wins his first major in years.

Tom Herman denies he tipped off reporter on Ohio State story | CBS- The Texas football coach was asked if he was the one, as reported by Jeff Snook, that tipped off Brett McMurphy about the scandal involving Zach Smith and Urban Meyer. Herman denied the allegations and McMurphy backed him up.

Johnny Manziel improves as team loses | Sporting News- Yes people are still trying to make Johnny Football happen. After a disastrous start with the Montreal Alouettes, Manziel bounced back by not turning the ball over in a loss. Baby steps, people!

DJ Durkin placed on leave after toxic culture allegations | ESPN- Reports have emerged that there’s a toxic culture at Maryland. A 19 year old player died from heat stroke after a workout on May 29th. According the players the coaching staff continued to mock individuals when they were overheated during August practices. Yikes.
