Five-star big man EJ Montgomery is turning heads in Lexington.

With the addition to TJ Beisner to, the Kentucky Wildcats are striving to build relationships with the players and the fans.

One of the complaints that the Big Blue Nation has had recently is the inability to really get to know some of the players because they are at UK for just one or two seasons. The program has been criticized for not doing enough to bridge that gap.

With the new format of the Meet the Wildcats series, fans will get to know these players on a more personal level. There is an introductory video and a 20 minute podcast discussion included in this edition that focuses on EJ Montgomery.

His personality is on full display as he discusses his love for basketball, what it’s like being a Kentucky basketball player, his favorite foods, his favorite movies, and more.

Montgomery has been getting early rave reviews at practice and it could be argued that his commitment to Kentucky hasn’t been heralded enough.

At a time when the Duke Blue Devils were getting all of the attention in recruiting and had seemingly overtaken John Calipari, EJ shunned Coach K and picked Kentucky when the favorite was Duke.

With his versatility Montgomery could end up being the most talented big man on the roster. He doesn’t have the experience of PJ Washington or the refined skills of Reid Travis, but he is 6’11 and can run the court better than both of them. He can create plays on the wing but can also do damage with his back to the basket.

While early indications are that both Travis and Washington will start, don’t be shocked if by some point in the season Montgomery slides into one of those spots. He also has the chance to make himself into a lottery pick if his offensive game develops over the course of the season.
