Could the addition of a new four-star small forward come shortly after the loss of another four-star forward?
DJ Jeffries’ decommitment is a big blow to the 2019 recruiting campaign, and it could mean bad things for James Wiseman’s recruitment as well. Evan Daniels of 247 Sports has flipped his prediction in Jeffries’ crystal ball to Memphis.
Penny Hardaway, Jeffries’ former coach, has had contact with Jeffries since the Kentucky commitment, before he even became the Memphis Tigers head coach. Jeffries and fellow 2019 recruit James Wiseman both played together last year for Hardaway on the AAU circuit.
However, if Jeffries doesn’t decide to re-commit to Kentucky, it perhaps opens up room for in-state star Dontaie Allen, who’s also a four-star wing.
It’s not outlandish to think that this helps land Allen. In fact, Daniels, along with 247 Sports national basketball analysts Jerry Meyer and Brian Snow, logged picks for Kentucky into Allen’s crystal ball as soon as Jeffries announced his decommitment. It was the first Kentucky predictions in Allen’s crystal ball, and UK now has all three predictions.
Allen, the No. 33 small forward in the 247 Sports Composite, is a Falmouth native who plays his high school ball at Pendleton County. A Kentucky offer this week may be more likely now that Jeffries has backtracked, which would really propel the Allen-to-Kentucky hype.
Allen is actually ranked 47th overall at Rivals.com, one spot behind — you guessed it — Jeffries.
