The Kentucky Wildcats have lost a pledge from DJ Jeffries.
The four-star forward announced the news on his Twitter page.
After careful consideration prayer and countless hours of consulting with my family I decided to reopen recruitment it was a hard decision but I am confident that taking my time to choose the right school for me to better myself educationally and athletically is the right choice pic.twitter.com/Pqc4QlVqfd

This comes as a major surprise, as Jeffries was the first player to commit to UK in the Class of 2019, and he’s been adamant he was solid with Kentucky all along.
There had been rumors that Memphis could be a major player in his recruitment since Penny Hardaway was hired, but to this point, nothing had happened to think he could actually spurn UK for the Tigers.
This also could be a bad sign of where things stand with James Wiseman, as the two have spent a lot of time on the AAU circuit together, though they have changed teams over the last month.
Still, you have to think Memphis now becomes a major player again for Jeffries, which would only help their chances with Wiseman.
It’s probably also hurting UK that they’ve been heavily recruiting Kahlil Whitney and Dontaie Allen recently. As of now, there’s a good chance both end up at UK, which is something Jeffries may not be a fan of since they could all three be wings in college.
Heck, it’s possible Jeffries just wants to re-evaluate his options and still may end up at UK, though that’s probably out of the cards. This is actually the first decommit of the Cal era in Lexington.
