Random Rants of BBN Vol. I

Does UK emerging for Khalil Whitney mean Dontaie Allen is getting put on the backburner?

Jon Lopez of Nike

Random Rants is exactly how it sounds, just a bunch of random happenings in the world of BBN and how Kentucky should move going forward.

Rant No. 1

The hot topic of conversation is that every university on the planet earth have offered the four-star Kentucky kid, Dontaie Allen a scholarship except the University of Kentucky. Dontaie Allen had a great Jr. year at Pendleton County and carried over that momentum into this summer’s AAU season.

Allen has seen his stock soar from a three-star player to a four star over the past month. Allen is visiting Lexington next weekend and an offer was thought to be looming, but that may have changed with the emergence of the scholarship offer to Kahlil Whitney.

Rant No. 2

At the end of every summer, there always seems to be one or two players that are UK bound and it’s nowhere close to being a secret. Last year, it was Keldon Johnson and Immanuel Quickley. The year before, it was P.J. Washington and Nick Richards.

But this year, UK has the luxury of having two commitments going into summer!

UK has commitments from Tyrese Maxey and D.J. Jeffries, and now it appears as if we’ve found one more to add to the group Kahlil Whitney who is a Chicago native that is playing at Isaiah Briscoe’s former high school at Roselle Catholic in New Jersey.

As Joel Justus continues to tweet #WhoWantsToBeNext after commitments, UK will continue to have players being drafted in the NBA lottery.

Rant No. 3

The 2020 high school class will not be the last year of “one-and-done”. The one thing that is frequently ignored for the purpose of getting hits on their page on the internet is that in the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the NBA is that player eligibility was not made amendable in the contract.

For those wondering, the current CBA runs through the 2022-23 season with a mutual option for the 2023-24 year. Don’t look for the eligibility requirement to chance until the new CBA is negotiated, that is also when I suspect the development league now known as the G-League will become a better structured minor league system for the money making powerhouse the NBA.
