Kira Lewis may reclassify into 2018 class

Kentucky has looked into Lewis, who may move up a class.

We may have a very late addition to the 2018 recruiting class.

Five-star point guard Kira Lewis, currently a class of 2019 member, said that he hasn’t decided whether or not he’ll reclassify yet, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. Andrew Slater adds the decision will likely come in early August.

Lewis is ranked the No. 30 player and the No. 4 point guard in the class of 2019 by 247 Sports Composite. Kentucky has recently watched him play, and has shown interest, but John Calipari has yet to extend a scholarship offer.

The 6-3 guard is a native of Hazel Green( AL), and Alabama is currently the favorite to land him. All nine predictions in his crystal ball have been in favor of the Crimson Tide thus far.

This would be an awfully late addition to the class, although Kentucky knows about late recruiting additions. Hamidou Diallo didn’t join the 2016 signing class until halfway through the season, in January of 2017.

It sounds as though Kentucky has still yet to become a major player in Lewis’ recruitment, and if he decides to reclassify, it likely doesn’t give Calipari enough time to make up the ground that Alabama, Auburn and others have gained. If he stays in 2019, Calipari would have better odds at landing Lewis, if he got more involved in his recruitment.

It is worth pointing out that Lewis has previously said he thinks Kentucky will offer, though that probably would not be as a 2018 recruit. They’re working to find another guard to pair with Tyrese Maxey in the 2019 class, and Lewis could be a great fit for that.
