Kentucky Basketball Recruiting: CJ Walker a recruit to watch for in 2019 class

There’s reportedly “heavy interest” between Kentucky and a fast-rising star in next year’s class.

Kentucky is deep into its 2019 recruiting effort, as John Calipari has extended 10 scholarship offers to that class.

And as the recruiting effort expands to more players, four-star recruit CJ Walker could be a player to keep an eye on. The Lexington Herald-Leader’s Ben Roberts listed Walker in a recent article, saying that there have been rumblings that Kentucky has interest in the 6-8 power forward.

There has been no real public connection between UK and Orlando power forward CJ Walker just yet, but there have been some rumblings in recent days that Walker is indeed on the Cats’ radar. The 6-8 prospect has been one of the most-talked-about players of July, picking up new offers from Louisville, Memphis, Texas and others in recent days.

PrepHoops.com reporter Jake Perper also says Kentucky has been “showing heavy interest as of late.”

Walker is ranked the No. 47 player and No. 10 power forward in the class of 2019 by 247 Sports. He currently has 36 offers, including offers from a number of SEC schools: LSU, Tennessee, Florida, Arkansas, Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Missouri, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. Nearly the entire conference has extended an offer.

The Orlando native currently has two predictions in his crystal ball, one for Tennessee and one for Louisville.

Kentucky currently has two power forwards on its offer list in Vernon Carey and Matthew Hurt. Calipari has his eyes on bigger names at that position, but as a fast-rising recruit, don’t be surprised if he makes a move on Walker to sure up the position.
