As the recruitment of James Wiseman heats up, the Kentucky Wildcats and Memphis Tigers remain the teams to beat for his services. Wiseman is now planning to visit one of those schools very soon.
According to 247 Sports, Wiseman plans to visit Kentucky sometime in August, which will likely be unofficial.
“The atmosphere, the environment up there, just everything,” Wiseman said of what he’ll be looking for during the trip. “Coach Calipari is a legendary coach. He puts a lot of players in the NBA.”
The five-star center recently revealed on ESPNU that, “Memphis and Kentucky are definitely my top two schools right now.” He previously said he wanted to have a list of eight schools going into the fall, but it will be a one of the biggest recruiting shockers ever if ends up anywhere other than Memphis or Lexington.
Kentucky had long been presumed the favorite for Wiseman, the No. 1 overall recruit in 2019 by 247 Sports, until Memphis hired Penny Hardaway becoming the Tigers’ head coach. It also initially looked like Wiseman would take some official visits and decide sometime in the fall.
Now, rumors have emerged Wiseman could move into the Class of 2018 and be on campus next season. For now, they look like nothing more than rumors, though it is a mystery as to when Wiseman will make his decision.
Wiseman hasn’t planned any official visits as of now.
