Friday Quickies: UK Finishes No. 2 Edition

John Calipari’s strong recruiting effort wasn’t quite enough to pass Duke this year.

NCAA Basketball: SEC Conference Tournament-Kentucky vs Georgia Joe Puetz-USA TODAY Sports

Seemingly down and out after Mike Krzyzewski landed three of the top four recruits in the country, John Calipari stormed back and snagged four five-star recruits (EJ Montgomery, Ashton Hagans, Immanuel Quickley and Keldon Johnson), as well as one of the nation’s top four-star recruits (Tyler Herro).

It was a strong effort for Calipari, and it got him the No. 2 class in the nation. But he wasn’t able to make up the ground and catch Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils in the Recruiting Services Consensus Index rankings.

RSCI’s final rankings have Duke tallying 448 points and Kentucky coming in behind the Blue Devils with 411 points.

For what it’s worth, the RSCI analysis says that the addition of Reid Travis would have catapulted UK to No. 1 if transfer commits counted.
