John Calipari has extended a scholarship offer to Kahlil Whitney, according to Scott Burgess of Prep Hoops. Whitney also said that John Calipari wants to get him on campus soon, and the five-star wing wants to make his college decision this fall.
Whitney, who hails from Roselle, New Jersey. He’s ranked the No. 18 player and the No. 5 small forward in the class of 2019 on 247 Sports Composite. He stands 6-6, 190 pounds.
This is the 24th Division I offer for Whitney. His list also includes offers from the Louisville Cardinals, Florida Gators, LSU Tigers and Kansas Jayhawks. The Duke Blue Devils have also been showing a lot of interest recently. The two current favorites to land Whitney are Georgetown and Illinois.
Right now, the Illinois Fighting Illini have 67 percent of the predictions in his crystal ball. That’s actually where Orlando Antigua is now an assistant coach.
Whitney, the No. 4 player in the state of New Jersey, can play well as a wing. He can run the floor on the fast break, he’s a competent ball handler, he can finish at the rim, and he can convert and-one opportunities. He’s also good at slashing to the basket from the 3-point line.
It will be interesting to see how much the Kentucky offer shakes up Whitney’s recruitment, as well as what it means for other wing targets in 2019 like Keion Brooks and Jaden McDaniels.
