Rajon Rondo is teaming up with LeBron James.
According to Woj, Rondo is signing a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. It’s reportedly for $9 million, so a nice chunk of change for the 32-year-old point guard.
Rondo spent with past season with the New Orleans Pelicans, where he teamed up with former Kentucky Wildcats Darius Miller, DeAndre Liggins, DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis. Rondo averaged 8.3 points and 8.2 assists during the 2017-18 regular season, then averaged 10.3 points and 12.2 assists in the playoffs.
He helped guide New Orleans to a first-round sweep of Portland before losing to Golden State in the semifinals, who went on to win the NBA Finals.
Most assumed the Pelicans would at least rey to re-sign Rondo. However, the writing was on the wall that Rondo was leaving when they signed Elfrid Payton not long after free agency began.
Now, for the time being, Rondo is set to join UK alum Julius Randle in LA. Randle just had his rights as a restricted free agent renounced, so he’s free to sign with anyone, but there’s hope LA can still get him back.
Rondo will also be one the same team as Lonzo Ball and Lance Stephenson. What could go wrong?
This also could be a precursor to the Lakers making a move for Cousins, who is a free agent and has spent two seasons with Rondo (1 with Kings and 1 with Pelicans).
