College football media days are usually just a bunch of cliche-filled speeches from coaches and players about how good they hope their team will be this year.
North Carolina Tar Heels coach Larry Fedora took a different approach by going on an absurd rant about how football is becoming too soft, and America will fail if football doesn’t stay tough.
“Our game is under attack,” Fedora said, according to USA Today. “I fear that the game will be pushed so far from what we know that we won’t recognize it 10 years from now. And if it does, our country will go down, too.”
It gets better.
“I think because of the lessons you learn in the game of football relate to everything you’re going to do for the rest of your life,” Fedora said. “When we stop learning those lessons, we’re going to struggle.”
Oh, and as expected, Fedora doesn’t think that football and CTE are connected. That’s right, he’s not ready to accept the claim that football leads to head damage. Has to wait for more facts to come out, I guess.
More from Larry Fedora: He doesn’t think it’s been proven that the game of football causes CTE, but that has been put out there as fact and has turned a lot of people off.— Matt Fortuna (@Matt_Fortuna) July 18, 2018
Kentucky fans have had their complaints about Mark Stoops, but no one can say that Stoops has made himself look as bad as Fedora did this week.
