Vernon Carey Jr. has committed to BBM (I’m sorry, I had to do it) and hopefully BBN shortly after.
TJ Walker of KSR conducted a quick interview with Carey Jr. at the Peach Jam after his Nike Team Florida team lost to James Wiseman’s Bluff City Legends. When asked about his official visit schedule the only visit Carey Jr. could rifle off by name was none other than Big Blue Madness, confirming he is committed to making that his visit date likely Friday, October the 12th.
The fan in me thinks that Carey Jr. isn’t as much of a Duke lean as many suspect since he didn’t immediately list Duke’s midnight madness when asked about his official visit schedule since these recruits are used to listing off names of schools they are considering along with visit schedules, that’s just the fan in me reading into it too much of course.
The objective part of me just sees it as a very good sign that the Kentucky staff has made a very good impression with the Carey family, especially on Carey Jr.
Carey Jr. making his visit during Big Blue Madness is huge news. Recently the Kentucky staff has turned BBM into an exclusive event for the truly elite seniors for their official visit. Big Blue Madness 2015 was the first time we saw this take place when top uncommitted seniors De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, and Harry Giles made their official visit to Kentucky later landing Fox and Monk during the fall signing period.
The year before Kentucky hosted five uncommitted seniors and did not receive any of their signatures. This caused Kentucky to make Big Blue Madness to make the event more exclusive so they could have the official visit more focused on the recruits.
While Big Blue Madness in 2016 hosted 6 players there was already at least two implied commitments, of the six players four of them committed to Kentucky. Last year the event was a bust for the uncommitted seniors they hosted, none of them choosing Kentucky.
Anyway, mark it down in your calendars that Big Blue Madness will likely be Friday, October the 12th and Vernon Carey Jr. will be there and I’m assuming if Kentucky wants to really sell the Anthony Davis with DeMarcus Cousins pairing we will see James Wiseman there as well.
