UK Football signee Ashtan Pierre unlikely to qualify

The Cats are likely losing one of their 2018 signees with a big offer sheet.

The Kentucky Wildcats have the majority of their 2018 class already on campus. However, one signee is not expected to make it to UK for the 2018 college football season.

During Monday’s SEC Media Days, head coach Mark Stoops revealed that Ashtan Pierre is facing grade issues that will likely keep him from qualifying academically for this season.

“It was an issue with grades, the transcript,” said Stoops. “It doesn’t look like we’re going to get it situated before the year starts. It’s a clearinghouse issue.”

Pierre, who hails from Deerfield Beach (FL), picked UK while holding scholarship offers from the LSU Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners, South Carolina Gamecocks, Iowa Hawkeyes, Miami-Florida Hurricanes, Michigan State Spartans, North Carolina Tar Heels and Ole Miss Rebels among others.

That kind of offer sheet speaks to how good a recruit Pierre was shaping up to be if he got his academics sorted out. Alas, he’ll have to wait to begin his college career at the Division I level, if ever.

Pierre spent most of his time at defensive end and outside linebacker.
