DJ Jeffries has played like an absolute beast to begin the 2018 Peach Jam.
Media members in attendance are raving about the impact he is having on the court for his AAU team, Bluff City Legends. There is also a large buzz generating around the enormous potential of the ESPN five-star small forward as he enters his senior yer of high school.
John Calipari watched Jeffries dominate on night one of the Peach Jam and had to be pleased with the overall effort he saw from Jeffries.
It is impressive to think that while playing on the same team as James Wiseman, it was Jeffries that was catching the attention of those in Augusta, SC early on.
Kentucky commit DJ Jeffries (@lildjj0) has had a solid outing this week in Augusta with @TeamPennyHoops. He is a solid wing who’s able to score in the half court and make an impact on the glass. Should make an immediate impact when he gets to Lexington #BBN.— Samad H. (@CoachHines28) July 13, 2018
The Big Blue Nation was elated to hear about just who Jeffries is recruiting to join him in Lexington next season. Perhaps the two best players in the class of 2019, James Wiseman and Vernon Carey. During an instagram “ask me a question” session, Jeffries, definitively responded when asked who he wants to follow in his path and commit to Kentucky.
The thought of a Wiseman, Carey, and Jeffries frontcourt next year has to get fans blood pumping. That would be a force that would give any team in college basketball a matchup nightmare. I sincerely hope Jeffries recruitment strategies prove effective. The coaches aren’t the only ones taking advantage of the nation’s top players being under one roof.
Jeffries also helped put some minds at ease by announcing his firm commitment to John Calipari, despite the appointment of Penny Hardaway as head coach of the Memphis Tigers.
When asked if he was going to Memphis next year now that Penny was the coach, Jeffries replied, “Kentucky all the way.”
There was speculation when Hardaway accepted the job at Memphis that Jeffries may follow him. Since that is not happening it has to make Kentucky fans feel better about the chances of landing his teammate James Wiseman.
Jeffries also affirmed that he is close with Tyrese Maxey. The two should blend well together next season and hopefully add some more of their 2019 friends to next years team. Maxey has also shined this week and is showing his competitive spirit. Calipari is once again showing his incredible instinct in his recruitment strategy when building a future team.
It seems like an eternity ago since DJ Jeffries committed to play for Kentucky. In reality it has must been a few months. But in just a few days Jeffries has reminded everyone just who he is as a player.
The development shown from the spring period to the summer Peach Jam has given validity to Jeffries emerging as one of the top players in his class.
