Peach Jam is the end-of-the-year AAU basketball tournament.
Many of the best young basketball recruits get a chance to showcase their talents against one another. Wednesday night did not disappoint, as Kentucky Wildcats commit Tyrese Maxey led his Houston Hoops basketball squad in their opening game of the 2018 Peach Jam against the PSA Cardinals.
The PSA Cardinals feature Cole Anthony. Anthony, the son of former NBA player Greg Anthony, is on the Wildcats’ radar as well. However, Duke and Oregon seem to have the inside track.
Maxey showed off his athleticism and range at varying points throughout the game. He was able to contort his body and avoid contact while getting to the rim. More impressive may have been his ability to knock down the three-point shot. Maxey nailed three triples that were all well behind the three-point arc.
Maxey finished 6-of-13 from the field, going 3-of-8 from downtown. Maxey also grabbed 5 rebounds and had 1 assist.
Maxey went head-to-head with Anthony throughout the entire game. Anthony got the better of the one-on-one matchup, outscoring Maxey 27-16.
Maxey and his Houston Hoops squad, however, got the better of Anthony’s PSA Cardinals.
A strip of Anthony by Maxey in the closing seconds helped to setup one of the craziest finishes to a basketball game ever.
In one of the wildest endings to a basketball game you’ll ever see, the PSA Cardinals led Houston Hoops by 2 points with 1.0 left on the clock. Maxey’s teammate and Texas A&M commit Chris Harris was fouled. He knocked down both free throws to the tie the game and then in the most Houston Hoops won 68-65.
WOW. Tyrese Maxey told me his coach pulled him because he wanted to rest him, hinting the game was over and they were going to lose. Maxey put himself BACK in because he thought they could come back. They did.

All of this came with even Maxey’s coach thinking the game was over and waiving the wihte flag, but not Maxey.
