UK Basketball Recruiting: Wildcats feel good about chances with Cole Anthony

UK feels it’s in much better shape for Anthony than they’re given credit for as the summer recruiting circuit rolls on.

Talk is heating back up when it comes to John Calipari and his 2019 Kentucky Wildcat recruits.

Cole Anthony, the third overall ranked player in ESPN’s Top-100 for 2019, reportedly doesn’t have a “favorite” for where he’d like to play. Duke has been perceived to be in the lead, but don’t count out John Calipari and co.

KSR’s TJ Walker gave an encouraging update about UK’s standing with Anthon:

UK still feels like they have a great chance to land Anthony. While analysts predict Duke, Oregon or Kansas, I continue to tell people not to sleep on Kentucky’s chances. UK’s staff has done a good job in this quiet recruitment and the Cats will continue to be a major player for Anthony.

Anthony, second in the 247 Sports Top-100, hasn’t been offered by Kentucky… yet.

This could be compared to Aidan Igiehon. Igiehon said to 247Sports.com that “They’re recruiting me. They just want to see more of me.”

The Cats will (at least) most-likely return guards Immanuel Quickley, Jemarl Baker and Tyler Herro next season. However, it’s doubtful that will stray them away from the Anthony-sweepstakes.

Anthony not having Kentucky as his “favorite” doesn’t do Kentucky any favors but having the best recruiter in the nation is always an advantage.

It’s going to be interesting to see what UK does at the Nike Peach Jam this week. If UK coaches are consistently watching Anthony, perhaps it’s a sign than an offer is coming, and they’re ready to make a strong push for him.

But if an offer doesn’t come within the next month, it’s hard to see UK lasting much longer in this recruitment.
