Kentucky Basketball Recruiting: UK may be getting back in the mix for Isaiah Stewart

UK could still be a player for the No. 6 player in 2019.

Isaiah Stewart may not have UK on his list, but he’s still open to hearing from the Wildcats.

Back in May, Stewart cut his list to 10 schools, and UK did not make the cut. Stewart had made it clear he was open to UK, but once he cut his list, it looked as though John Calipari’s program was out of the running.

Not so.

In an interview with Evan Daniels, Stewart spoke about UK and if they could be getting back into his recruitment.

“I spoke to my coach of course and he said that Kentucky might jump in the mix, so it’ll be interesting to see what they do,” said Stewart. “Until then, I’m just focusing on learning more about schools, getting more deep into rosters and stuff like that.”

Stewart even admitted UK could be contender for his services, even if they’re jumping back in late in his recruitment.

“Of course it will, because I definitely feel like cutting it down to five and they’re a school that’d be jumping in late,” said Stewart. “I know about Kentucky and their program. I know it’s a great look but you never know who is the right fit.”

For now, the Duke Blue Devils are getting more of his crystal ball predictions, but they’re also favored to land Vernon Carey in 2019. If that happens, that could make it easier for UK to make a serious run at Stewart, who is ranked No. 6 overall by 247 Sports.

If UK does start making a bigger push for Stewart, it could signal they’re not as confident about landing James Wiseman, but Stewart has played as well as Wiseman for much of the spring AAU circuit.
