Kentucky freshmen arriving on campus, Tyrese Maxey making noise, Kentucky baseball, and more!

High School Basketball: McDonalds High School All American Games Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning Big Blue Nation!

It’s as exciting of a time in Kentucky Wildcats basketball as there has been since the start 2014/2015 season. Like then, the Cats have the prospect to do something special with the right blend of talent and experience.

The freshmen are starting to arrive on campus and the offseason will really start to ramp up.

How can you not love Tyler Herro’s mindset?

Oh yeah! Don’t forget about the returning players.

Football players are back too!

Quickies

Tyrese Maxey stands out at U18 camp | Cats Illustrated- John Calipari’s 2019 point guars is certainly making an impression with his play:

Tyrese Maxey is not someone that is going to wow anyone during the drill portions of a practice but whenever the lights get the brightest and the ball gets tipped, there might not be someone that I would rather have on my team than the Kentucky pledge. With his future head coach John Calipari looking on, Maxey’s tremendous downhill abilities, shooting off of the bounce and added playmaking skills made him a standout again on Saturday, as he looks to be one of the most well-rounded guards in America.

Jalen Lecque staying in 2019 to play point guard | 24/7- There was talk of Lecque perhaps moving to 2018 but the tenth ranked player in the 2019 class will stay in 2019. Kentucky just recently offered him and he’s looking to make himself into a point guard. Could he play with Tyrese Maxey? Cal has a knack for running his offense with two point guards.

Kentucky baseball could have two draft picks on Monday | Courier-Journal- One of the more frustrating aspects of the baseball team missing out on the NCAA baseball tournament is how much talent they had. Some of that talent will be in the MLB system next season.

Mitch Barnhart talks baseball stadium, missing the postseason | Cats Pause- Barnhart was confused as to how Kentucky’s resume was better than some team that got into the field yet they were omitted from the tournament. My only answer is that finishing the season losing five straight isn’t a good look.

Sydney McLaughlin looking to finish career at UK on a high note | WDRB- McLaughlin passed up a seven figure payday to come to Kentucky for one season and now is looking to make her mark in Eugene, Oregon next week as track and field heads into the postseason. Coach Floreal has no delusions of her returning next season, “I don’t think it would make any sense (for her to return),” said the coach. “As a coach, you’ve got to be fair to the athlete. Once they’ve accomplished so much, what else is there for her to accomplish?”

NBA feud turning nasty | CBS- It’s clear that Draymond Green and Tristan Thompson do not like each other. Green is ready to take the rivalry to the streets.

Patrick Mahomes turned down endorsements as a rookie | Yahoo!- In one of the most mature moves by a young athlete that I’ve read in a long time, Mahomes turned down multiple local endorsements in Kansas City last season. Instead he wanted to focus on proving himself and finding his place on the team in order to lessen the hype.

Russian soccer gangs fight in the forest | ESPN- Whenever we start to think that sports in America have turned ugly in regards to fan vs. fan interaction, leave it up to European soccer hooligans to put things in perspective. Soccer sucks.
