Kentucky Basketball: John Calipari makes interesting comment that may be related to Reid Travis

Could Reid Travis be a member of the team as soon as next week?

John Calipari is always on a recruiting trail.

This week, Calipari is working to get one of the best graduate transfers ever in college basketball. Stanford forward Reid Travis is set to visit UK this week, and all the buzz is that the Cats are in great shape for the Pac-12 star.

On Monday, Calipari held a teleconference about this week’s NBA Draft, but he also gave some nuggets on this year’s Kentucky Basketball squad.

By now, you know all about all the Cats being on campus now that that Ashton Hagans has arrived to join Quade Green, Immanuel Quickley, Nick Richards, PJ Washington, Keldon Johnson, Tyler Herro, Jemarl Baker and EJ Montgomery.

However, Calipari made a comment that may have been in reference to Travis and the hope to get him aboard by next week.

“I think we’re going to be a much different team than we were a year ago,” said Cal. “If we finish this out and get all these guys in here, probably by next week, we’ll do some team stuff on the court.”

That would seem to indicate there’s at least one more player Calipari is working to get and hopes to have him by next week. Travis will visit Tuesday and could make a decision shortly after, though he initially planned to visit Villanova at some point.

Elsewhere, KSR’s TJ Walker said he expects Travis to pick UK by next Monday.

What’s going to make this interesting is if Travis does decide to visit Villanova, which could delay his decision to next week or even early in July.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like Calipari and UK are doing their best to make sure this doesn’t last another week.
