UK Basketball: Where is this weekend’s recruiting action?

Coach Calipari and his staff will be on the road for one final weekend before the new freshmen players arrive.

Kentucky’s new slate of freshmen recruits will arrive on campus next weekend, so that means it is even more urgent for John Calipari and his staff to make strides with more 2019 recruits.

Although the Under Armour circuit is off this weekend, there is still a great deal of AAU basketball to be found.

The Adidas Gauntlet will be hosting events in Atlanta, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, and Dallas this weekend. These regional qualifiers will be the last opportunity for these teams to get a chance at the Gauntlet Finale in July.

Calipari’s top Adidas recruit, Matthew Hurt, will be in action in Chicago with his D1 Minnesota squad. Hurt continues to rise in the recruitment rankings and could be the next in a long line of recent Adidas guys to choose Kentucky. Ashton Hagans, Immanuel Quickley, and EJ Montgomery have all played on that circuit.

The Nike EYBL will have their 4th session this weekend, which will take place in Hampton, VA. A slew of Kentucky targets will be in action there, including top recruits James Wiseman and Vernon Carey.

Rising star Cole Anthony will also be in action with his PSA Cardinals squad. While he does not currently have an offer from Kentucky, his impressive Spring/Summer run could lead to one soon.

2019 targets Jalen Lecque and Keion Brooks will also be in action in addition to 2020 recruits Ethan Morton, Addison Patterson, and Scottie Barnes. In-state stud Zion Harmon (2021) will also be on hand with Brad Beal Elite.

One prospect that is sure to draw attention is Kira Lewis with Mississippi Express, who recently gained his 5th star and has an unofficial visit scheduled in Lexington.

Of course, this will also be a chance to see current UK commits DJ Jeffries and Tyrese Maxey. They’ve both been productive thus far, though Maxey has arguably been the best player in any AAU circuit. He’s actually a Nike EYBL MVP candidate heading into the final weekend for the Peach Jam later this summer.

With all of these guys in action around the country, one thing is for certain: AAU basketball never stops. Thankfully, a driven John Calipari is on the road to continue his recent recruiting domination.
