If they weren’t already, it’s time for UK fans to expect PJ Washington to remain in the NBA Draft.
While the freshman forward said he wants a first-round guarantee to remain in the draft, all of the scuttlebutt has been he’ll stay in the draft regardless of his stock.
Over at SEC Country, Kyle Tucker spoke with an NBA scout about Washington. The scout said Washington should return to school but added “I think he’s out.”
This is just one of many reports out there that suggest Washington will remain in the draft. Over at KSR, TJ Walker did an update on the latest recruiting and NBA Draft decision news around UK.
For Washington, Walker believes he’s going to stay in the draft, saying “My confidence level is high in Washington leaving.”
Ever since Washington declared for the draft, there have consistently been reports that he is leaning toward remaining in the draft and is willing to take his chances as a second-round pick, even if he could be an easy first-round pick in 2019.
Part of that is due to a lot of second-rounder picks getting guaranteed contracts, at least for one season. Washington may think that’s all he needs to prove to an NBA team that they should commit to him long term.
Tucker also clarified he thinks Washington is willing to take a chance on the NBA as long he won’t be on a two-way contract:
I’ve just had a lot of folks behind the scenes tell me they think he’s gone as long as he thinks he’s getting a legit NBA contract, not a two-way deal.

The good news for Washington is he’s having a good showing at the combine scrimmages, which is undoubtedly making it more likely he stays in the draft.
Kentucky’s PJ Washington has been the best player in this first scrimmage so far. Think he’s helped himself this week. Showing consistency with his jumper and willing to bang on the inside. Uses his hands and length to compensate for size. Interesting draft decision for him.
