After a disappointing series in Knoxville last weekend, the Kentucky Wildcats baseball team bounced back this week with a win against Indiana Tuesday night and another come from behind vs. Mississippi State last night.
It’s the final regular season at the Cliff and the Cats are hoping to go out in style. The number 17 ranked Wildcats won 9-6 against coach Nick Mingione’s former team. UK went down early 4-1 but Sean Hjelle steadied the ship and ended up with his seventh win of the season.
They resume the series tonight at 5:00 PM and it’s on the SEC Network if you can’t make it out to the ballpark.

Once Ashton Hagans reclassifies, Cal will have the number one point guard in 2019 with Tyrese Maxey. He’s on the rise.

Wandale Robinson is a three star all purpose back out of Frankfort, Kentucky. It would be nice to get that in-state pipeline flowing once again.
Quickies
Luke Becker is Kentucky baseball’s miracle man | SEC Country- The starting second baseman survived an explosion in a grain elevator back at home in Iowa on December 28th. The video is gut wrenching. It’s amazing he walked away from it.
Dwane Casey fired after winning Coach of the Year in the NBA | Lexington Herald Leader- Casey has taken Toronto to never seen before heights, including number one seeds in the Eastern Conference, and he was voted as Coach of the Year by his peers. But none of that mattered once his Raptors were once again swept in the playoffs by Lebron James. I suspect it won’t take long for the former Wildcat to land on his feet.
Wenyen Gabriel working out for the Jazz | Cats Pause- Gabriel was not invited to the combine but he still scored one workout for the NBA. He desperately wants a chance in the NBA but I highly doubt it happens. I don’t expect him back in Lexington no matter how his workouts go.
Denzil Ware heading to Jacksonville State | Courier-Journal- In a surprising development, Ware will spend one more season in college football at the FCS level. I think there was much more to his departure than was made public which may explain why there wasn’t interest from any major programs. The guys has the talent to play just about anywhere.
How does Stoops replace Ware? | Lexington Herald Leader- Josh Allen may move from his Sam position to the Jack position and this will allow Boogie Watson to play the Sam. I think Kentucky will be OK without Ware but depth has become an issue.
Kentucky baseball now a “national program” | SEC Country- The Cats have been in the top 25 all season long and Nick Mingione continues to push his guys in the brutal SEC. Once the move is made to the new stadium, Kentucky baseball is really going to take off.
John Calipari has dominated the state of Texas in recruiting | Cats Pause- Tyrese Maxey is just the latest Texan to commit to Kentucky but there is a long list of players before him. The Harrison Twins, Julius Randle, Jarred Vanderbilt, PJ Washington, and De’Aaron Fox all hailed from the state of Texas. That’s got to stick in Shaka Smart’s crawl.
Matt Harvey looks the part in Reds debut | ESPN- The former Mets pitcher went four scoreless innings and only gave up one hit in his first start for the Reds. Cincy went on to win 6-2 against the Dodgers. The Reds have put something together since Brian Price was fired.
Cavs vs. Celtics in an unlikely rematch | CBS- Lebron James is the best player on the planet but getting his Cavaliers back to the Eastern Conference Finals was no easy task with the roster turnover and coaching issues. The Celtics lost Gordon Heyward before the season even got going and Kyrie Irving was out with the playoffs on the horizon. But Brad Stevens proved why he should have been named Coach of the Year by getting his team to the top of the conference.
I don’t know how I feel about this trailer for the upcoming reboot of the Predator franchise. I loved the original “Predator” and “Predator 2” isn’t as terrible as people make it out. The Alien vs. Predator series is awful and the 2010 “Predators” is underrated.
There are parts of this trailer that look awesome but the entire sequence with the kid appearing to summon the alien super hunter race to planet earth- the suburbs no less- looks ridiculous.
If it’s PG-13 I’ll be upset.
