The Kentucky Wildcats are poised for a strong finish to their 2018 class.
We already know UK is making a push to land five-star forward EJ Montgomery, the only true 2018 recruit they’re still targeting.
However, there are several 2019 recruits that could move up and be at UK when the 2018-19 college basketball season begins. All the buzz for the past year has been on James Wiseman being that guy, but it’s looking less and less likely that happens.
However, UK could still end up adding a top-10 2019 recruit in Ashton Hagans. The five-star point guard is not only favoring UK, but also a move into the 2018 class.
This weekend, current UK signee Tyler Herro is taking part in the Jordan Brand Classic. When asked about Hagans potentially reclassifying and joining UK next season, Herro said he’s all for it.
“Hopefully, he said he likes it a lot,” Herro told FloHoops. “He might reclassify to 2018, so we always got room for another guy.”
Adding Hagans would be huge for a variety of reasons, the biggest being it would help offset the losses of UK’s entire starting backcourt from last season.
When asked who he thinks leaves for the draft, Herro admitted he thought Hamidou Diallo and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander were both gone in addition to Kevin Knox, who declared for the draft on Friday.
But Herro is still hoping to keep some of UK’s other key veterans for next season.
“Hopefully, PJ (Washington) stays. We would love to have them all back, just so we can have some experience. I think they lacked that this year a little bit,” said Herro. “Hopefully, Wenyen (Gabriel) comes back. The more guys that stay, the better we’ll be.”
