Kentucky Wildcats Recruiting: UK meeting with Vernon Carey Jr.

Arguably the best player in 2019 is getting a visit from UK.

Vernon Carey Jr. is considered one of, if not the best recruit in the Class of 2019.

That’s a claim many have made with James Wiseman, who appears to be UK’s top target in 2019, and it’s hard to see both five-star big men playing at the same college.

But John Calipari has never shied away from trying to convince elite players to play with each other at UK, and it sounds like Calipari would like to have Carey and Wiseman together in Lexington.

According to 247 recruiting guru Evan Daniels, UK will meet with Carey this weekend.

Carey, the son of former NFL star Vernon Carey, is ranked No. 2 overall in 2019 by ESPN and 247 Sports behind only Wiseman. Rivals has the Florida native ranked No. 1.

Back in October, the 6-9, 245-pound power forward cut his list down to the Wildcats, Kansas Jayhawks, Duke Blue Devils, UCLA Bruins, North Carolina Tar Heels and Michigan State Spartans among others.

Right now, Carey’s 247 Crystal Ball has picks for Miami and Duke. Carey’s father played at Miami, which has the Hurricanes in strong position along with Duke. But if UK starts making him more of a priority, then this recruitment could get really interesting going into the fall.

Saying this, if it comes down to Wiseman or Carey, there’s really no question Calipari is prioritizing Wiseman.
