Kentucky Football: UK extends contract of Eddie Gran and other assistants

UK signs Eddie Gran and four other assistants to contract extensions.

Eddie Gran and four other UK football assistant coaches signed contract extensions this spring.

According to the UK Office of Legal Counsel, Gran signed a one-year extension through 2020. Special teams coordinator Dean Hood, defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale, defensive line coach Derrick LeBlanc, and offensive line coach John Schlarman each signed one-year extensions through 2019.

Gran is due $850,000 in 2018 and $875,000 in 2019. With his new extension, he will make $900,000 in 2020.

Also included in Gran’s new deal is a buyout of $150,000 per year remaining on the contract from Gran to UK should he find another coaching job elsewhere.

This is great news for UK football. Kentucky has made significant strides since Stoops took over for Joker Phillips in 2013. However, it seems the football staff has gone through countless offensive coordinators. Well, it looks like we are finally going to get some stability from Gran, who also serves as running backs coach.

Schlarman, who has been terrific for Mark Stoops’ staff helping carve out back-to-back 1,000 yard rushing seasons, will make $425,000 in 2018 and 2019.

Hood, another excellent addition to the staff, will make $350,000 in 2018 and $375,000 in 2019.

Clinkscale’s deal will pay him 300,000 per year and LeBlanc will make $300,000 in 2018 and $325,000 in 2019.

Defensive coordinator Matt House, tight ends coach/recruiting coordinator Vince Marrow, and outside linebackers coach Brad White already have contracts that run through the 2019 season.

Hopefully, this will allow Stoops to continue to build on his recent success of back-to-back bowl games. The future is bright for Kentucky Football. Go cats!
