Good morning Big Blue Nation. Last night the recruiting world was abuzz with news that 2019 point guard recruit Tyrese Maxey may have let it slip that he would be reclassifying to the 2018 class.
When talking about the probability of playing with fellow 2019 recruit Ashton Hagans had this to say: “We call ourselves The Duo,” he said, pausing a beat before correction himself: “A possible duo. I’m sorry. Trying not to laugh.”
What do you think? It sure sounds like the plan is for Maxey to join Hagans and an absolutely loaded frontcourt for John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats.
Maxey indicated that a decision would be forthcoming within the next week in regards to his college decision.
Calipari is a man possessed right now.

David Akers just ROASTED the Cowboys ... in Dallas.

This is the greatest moment in NFL Draft history. I’m not an Eagles fan and David Akers is a former Card so you know my feelings about him. But man, this is too good. This is like WWE Wrestling promo from the 80’s good.
See what I mean?

Hard to take a side here. Westbrook maybe too emotional after the game but we have no clue what these fans are saying to these players. My guess it isn’t “Good game, buddy.”

I’m a big Eddie Murphy from the 80’s fan so this is awesome.
Quickies
2019 wing Scottie Lewis gets an offer, ‘different from the rest’ | SEC Country- Kentucky, Duke, Villanova, and the rest of the best in college basketball are all over Lewis. He plays hard on defense and he is interested in getting his teammates involved which is setting him apart from the rest of the players on the AAU circuit.
Jamal Mashburn, Jr. hoping for a Kentucky offer | Lexington Herald-Leader- The 6-2 sophomore is playing in the EYBL event in Indy this weekend and is showing off his scoring ability. He is hoping to carry on his father’s legacy at UK. Cal, just go ahead and offer the kid.
Hjelle throws a gem in opening series vs. Mizzou | UK Athletics- The no. 13 Cats really need a series win and they got off to a good start against the Tigers last night. They will play again today at 2:00 PM.
Could Cal land 1 and 2 in 2019? | Courier-Journal- Vernon Carey, Jr. is the number one player in the class of 2019. His recruitment is wide open, but he talked about keeping in contact with Cal almost daily. He also discussed playing with the number 2 player, James Wiseman.
Nick Richards path hasn’t been easy, and that’s a good thing | Lexington Herald-Leader- Nick Richards’s freshman season was disappointing for everyone involved. Unlike most of his teammates, Richards hadn’t played a ton of basketball coming into Kentucky. He needed to experience what real competition was like and he needed to develop. I expect year 2 to be a game changer.
Brian Bowen invited to NBA combine | Sports Illustrated- The former Louisville Cardinal was embroiled in the pay-for-play scandal that rocked college basketball and ended Rick Pitino’s career at UofL (and maybe ended it forever). He transferred to South Carolina but wasn’t allowed to play. Bowen may not be cleared to play by the NCAA so he will test the NBA waters as a backup plan.
No word yet on which Kentucky players were invited to the combine as far as I have seen. I’m sure we will be learning more about that in the coming days.
Mark Stoops talks new hires to staff | SEC Country- The big hire here is former UK QB Freddie Maggard. He will be involved in the players’ lives off the field. He will coach them up on transitioning from high school to college, college to careers, and community outreach.
OKC Thunder Big Three turns out to be a Big Dud | ESPN- Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony failed to live up to the hype and were ousted in the first round of the playoffs by the Utah Jazz. Hard to see all three players coming back next year. And maybe that was Billy D’s last hurrah.
Pacers dismantle the Cavs, force game 7 | Sporting News- Lebron James sat out in the fourth quarter and was forced to watch his team get destroyed by the Pacers. Victor Oladipo and Lance Stevenson put on a show in Indy as they forced James into his first ever first round game 7.
Grades for NFL Draft Day 2 | CBS- The Cleveland Browns continue an impressive draft by adding Georgia running back Nick Chubb to their already loaded class.
Infinity War marching to second best opening ever | Deadline- I’m sure it’s going to break records and I bet its a good movie. But I haven’t seen all 37 Marvel movies preceding this one. Hell, I never saw Age of Ultron. I’m kinda over superhero movies.
No Winds of Winter in 2018 | Variety- George RR Martin, the creator of the mythical world of Westeros featured on HBO’s smash hit series ‘Game of Thrones’, will not be releasing the sixth book in the series in 2018. The book, ‘The Winds of Winter’, has been on hold since 2011 when Martin released ‘A Dance with Dragons’, the fifth installment of the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series.
But there will be a book released by Martin in November. ‘Fire and Blood’ is a history of the Targaryen family and will be released in 2018.
It is possible that the only closure fans will get will be from the Game of Thrones final season which is slated to run April of 2019. But there is a rumor floating that HBO does not want Martin releasing the next installment of his series until after the GoT finale.
I know what you’re thinking: James, shut up and go start your own ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ nerd blog.
I’ve considered it. Believe me.
