It’s a big weekend for big time recruits as the Nike EYBL will be played in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Carey is a five-star power forward with offers from every team that matters: Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, and a plethora of others. He updated his recruitment with Hale and emphasised that he has no early favorites at the moment but he does keep in frequent contact with John Calipari.
The Kentucky Wildcats are also in hot pursuit of the second-ranked player in the class, James Wiseman. Wiseman was a lock to Kentucky until Penny hardaway ramped up his efforts to get the big man to Memphis, but UK is still in strong pursuit of him.
Carey discussed playing with Wiseman as a possibility.
“Me and James talk a lot,” Carey said Friday “I wouldn’t be surprised if we went to school together or not. He’s probably going to do the best thing for him, and I’ll do the best thing for me.”
Getting both players on the same campus would be a trendmous haul for Calipari if he’s able to pull it off. It still looks unlikely, but Calipari is never one to back down from accomplishing something as massive as this.
With the departure of Jeff Capel to Pitt, the “magic” of Duke’s emergence in the world of recruiting may have been extinguished and Calipari is ready to pick up the mantle at the top once again.
