With the spring recruiting season in full swing, we’ll be hearing about new UK targets in the coming weeks and months.
The newest name to emerge is 2019 guard Kira Lewis. At the Nike EYBL in Dallas, Lewis stuffed the statsheet with 21.0 ppg, 4.0 apg, 3.8 rpg and 3.2 spg, so it’s easy to see how he caught UK’s eye.
Now, Lewis is drawing interest from UK, according to Corey Evans.
A 6-3, 160-pound point guard out of Hazel Green (AL), Lewis was a bit of an under-the-radar prospect coming into the spring AAU circuit. Rivals ranks him 81st overall in 2019, and he’s unranked in the ESPN Super 60 (he does have 4-star grade and ranked 13th among point guards).
However, 247 Sports has Lewis ranked 49th overall and the fifth-best point guard. What’s interesting about that is Ashton Hagans is ranked first, and he’s expected to be on campus next season. Tyrese Maxey is ranked second, and he too could reclassify and be at UK for the 2018-19 season.
If both of them are in college next season, then that could push Lewis up UK’s big board for the 2019 class. He currently holds offers from Indiana, Alabama, Florida State, Tennessee, Auburn, Baylor and LSU among others.
It is worth noting that Lewis is labeled a shooting guard by Rivals and ESPN, while 247 has him as a point guard.
Rivals.com reports that Alabama is seen as the favorite for now, but Lewis is also not planning to make a decision anytime soon.
