More names are starting to surface on John Calipari’s watch list in the class of 2020.
The newest recruit Cal is starting to watch for the Kentucky Wildcats is sophomore guard Josh Christopher of Mayfair High School in California.
Since Christopher is still just a sophomore, his recruitment hasn’t yet heated up, but he is already hearing from a multitude of blue-chip programs, including Arizona and UCLA.
Calipari has yet to extend an offer, but has been seen among other interested coaches watching Christopher on the Nike EYBL circuit, according to The Kansas City Star. Christopher plays for The Truth, run by former NBA star Paul Pierce.
Christopher has already seen some significant improvements in his first two seasons of high school basketball. As a sophomore, the 6-4 shooting guard averaged 25.9 points, 6.5 boards, and 3.6 assists per game. In addition to improving his offensive numbers, Christopher stepped up his defense as well, averaging 4 steals per game in his sophomore season.
While we’re still a ways from seeing Christopher on a college campus, ESPN does have him ranked eighth overall in 2020, while Rivals has him at ninth. 247 Sports has him ranked 11th.
It’s very early in his recruitment, but it is clear that the consensus top-15 guard in the 2020 class will be a highly sought after recruit in the next few years.
Cal is already watching and, if his game continues to improve, I think he will be a top target for the Wildcats in the class.
