KyKy Tandy updates his recruitment

The in-state star talks about what he looks for in a coach

UK has had multiple guards on its radar lately, and one of the names that has popped up is University Heights guard Dekeyvan ‘KyKy’ Tandy.

Tandy is a 6-1, 160-pound guard from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Being a Kentucky native and a basketball star, it seems almost meant to be that he would play at UK.

There’s only one problem. UK hasn’t sent him an offer. Tandy has been to UK’s campus on an unofficial visit, but Coach Cal still hasn’t officially sent him an offer.

Coach Cal and his staff were in Dallas over the weekend, but not specifically to see Tandy. They were there primarily for the Nike EYBL, but they did go to the UAA circuit on Saturday to watch 2020 five-star R.J. Hampton, as well as 2019 stars Scottie Lewis and Bryan Antoine, but UK did sneak in some time to watch Tandy.

Pat Lawless of Prep Circuit spoke with Tandy about the young players' options, and who exactly has been recruiting him the hardest:

“Iowa State, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Oklahoma, and Kansas State have been reaching out to me the most,” said Tandy during the interview.

Tandy also told Lawless that he has a lot of respect for Tennessee coach Rick Barnes. For Tandy, a great coach is just as important as a great program for his decision.

“A coach that really keeps in touch with me, really cares for me and makes me feel comfortable. I want to be comfortable and make it feel like home.”

John Calipari and his staff have been keeping contact with Tandy and even watched him late in his junior season. While UK may have not offered yet, they’re still keeping themselves in the running, though that can only last so long if Tandy doesn’t get the coveted offer.

Tandy goes more in-depth about the coaches that have sent him offers and what they could do to elevate his game.

Coach Cal has done great work with guards and bringing in a UK native would be a great story. We just have to hope that he sends out an offer.
