Kentucky Basketball Recruiting: Jalen Lecque talks UK interest and possible reclassification

Jalen Lecque is another guard that could move into the 2018 class.

The Kentucky Wildcats continue to pursue Jalen Lecque.

The Class of 2019 guard is ranked 12th overall in his class in addition to being the second-best combo guard via 247 Sports. He’s ranked 10th by ESPN and ninth by Rivals. Villanova, Kansas, Louisville, Texas, Florida and Oregon are among the many schools that have offered, while Duke, North Carolina and UK have shown interest.

However, Lecque has been public about the potential he’ll reclassify into 2018. What’s been unclear is how interested is UK, and in what class do they want Lecque.

Turns out, UK is interested in Lecque in whichever class he’s part of, as he told Chris Fisher of Cats Pause while at the Nike EYBL in Dallas:

The fact that UK is comparing Lecque to John Wall shows how highly they think of the 6-4 guard from North Carolina. Even if UK gets Quade Green back, Lecque is fully capable of playing the 2 or the 3, maybe even better than Tyrese Maxey, another guard UK is recruiting for 2018 that’s currently in the 2019 class.

Assuming both Lecque and Maxey don’t make their reclassification decisions until later, don’t be surprised if Lecque turns out to the one UK wants more in 2018.

For now, enjoy some highlight of Lecque in action in Dallas:
