Kentucky Basketball Recruiting: Where the Cats’ targets land in the latest Rivals 2019 rankings

D.J. Jeffries took a big dip, while several UK targets remained in the top 10, including Ashton Hagans.

As you may have noticed, John Calipari has been VERY active on the recruiting trail lately, visiting several top 2019 recruits in the last week. As Rivals.com updated it’s Top 150 for the class on Thursday, let’s take a look at where Kentucky’s top 2019 targets are ranked.

Kentucky’s top two targets for the class, Vernon Carey (No. 1) and James Wiseman (No. 2), continue to be the top two players in the 2019 class unanimously.

“The top three wasn’t that tough for me, but basically everybody else in the top 20 was,” said Eric Bossi of Rivals.com. “I feel that Vernon Carey, James Wiseman and Charles Bassey have separated themselves from the pack at this point.”

While the Kentucky staff has spoken to Charles Bassey, he has not received an offer and is not considered a top target at this point. Calipari visited Wiseman this week, and a rumored visit with Carey has been rescheduled. At this point, they seem to be the top two guys in the country as well as the top two guys on Cal’s list.

Other top 10 recruits include Matthew Hurt (No. 5), Ashton Hagans (No. 7, committed), Bryon Antoine (No. 8), and and Jalen Lecque (No. 9). Hagans is expected to reclassify into the 2018 class, and there is still a chance Lecque does as well.

Antoine’s high school teammate Scottie Lewis has dropped to No. 11, Tyrese Maxey checks in at No. 14, Keion Brooks is listed at No. 35, and commit D.J. Jeffries took a significant drop to No. 53.

While some Kentucky guys have taken dips in the rankings, Kentucky leads at this point for more top recruits than at this point a year ago.

This class is also stronger across the board than the 2018 group. So, if Cal is able to land a couple more of those top 10 guys, this class could be one of his best.
