UK Recruiting: Vernon Carey not meeting with John Calipari

UK is still in the mix for Carey, however.

It looks like John Calipari won’t meet with Vernon Carey for a second time in just over a week.

According to Adam Zagoria, there are no plans now for Calipari to meet with Carey on Monday. It’s unclear why the previously-scheduled meeting was canceled or if it will be made up at a later date.

Zagoria did add that Carey’s coach says UK is still in the mix for the five-star big man and No. 2 recruit in the Class of 2019. So, perhaps Monday’s meeting had to be postponed for some other reason.

Still, it’s no secret that UK is higher on fellow big man James Wiseman in the Class of 2019, and UK stands a much better chance of getting him than Carey, who’s believed to be favoring Duke and Miami.

While Calipari would undoubtedly love to have a frontcourt of Wiseman and Carey in 2019-2020, it’s probably a pipe dream at this point. Unless one of them were to reclassify and move into the 2018 class, it’s hard to see them ending up at the same school.

Still, I wouldn’t expect Calipari to just mail this recruitment in, so expect there to be another meeting between a UK coach and Carey in the future. Carey is too good of a prospect to give up on in the spring.
