The Tyrese Maxey recruitment continues to be heavily in favor of UK.
Last week, reports came out that John Calipari was pushing Maxey to reclassify and move into the 2018 class. Maxey’s mentor has since attempted to shoot those reports down.
However, Evan Daniels reports that Maxey is still debating on whether to reclassify into 2018 or stick to 2019. Either way, there’s really no debating that UK is the big favorite in this recruitment now.
Not long after the reclass rumors surfaced, Maxey’s father, Tyrone Maxey, left his position with the SMU Mustangs basketball team. Maxey’s father was the director of recruiting, and was hired by SMU in August.
SMU became the 247 Sports Crystal Ball leader for Maxey once his father was hired, but UK has since jumped into the lead. UK now leads SMU 84-16 percent in Maxey’s Crystal Ball with 16-straight picks. That includes one from 247 director of basketball recruiting Jerry Meyer.
That really began when Calipari visited Maxey on April 5th, right when the latest spring recruiting period began. Following a brief dead period, Calipari met with Maxey again on Sunday, April 15th.
Calipari has gone on the attack in this recruitment, and now the five-star point guard could be looking to move to 2018 and join a loaded Wildcats backcourt.
And even if he stays in the 2019 class, Maxey would likely becomes the biggest star in the UK backcourt in 2019.
