UK Basketball Recruiting: Tyrese Maxey hosting John Calipari for in-home visit this weekend

It’s the second time in a week that Cal will meet with Maxey.

John Calipari isn’t letting up in his pursuit of Tyrese Maxey.

News broke Wednesday that Calipari had been talking with Maxey about a potential reclassification into the 2018 class. Maxey is currently the 13th-ranked recruit and second-best point guard in 2019, for now.

According to Corey Evans, Maxey is set to host Calipari for an in-home visit this weekend. Maxey will also be visited by Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, Michigan’s John Beilein and Texas’ Shaka Smart.

This will be the second time in a week Calipari has met with Maxey, When the most recent recruiting period opened, Maxey was one of the first recruits Calipari met with.

It’s pretty clear Calipari wants to lock this one up sooner rather than later. It’s unclear how far along Maxey would be in a potential reclassification, or if it’s even what he ultimately will do.

Then again, I doubt Calipari is pushing this hard if he doesn’t think there’s a real chance Maxey could be on the roster next season. How often do we see him meet with a recruit twice in one week?

Maxey would be a major addition to UK’s backourt, as he’s versatile enough to make an impact from the point or shooting guard spots. With Ashton Hagans, Immanuel Quickley and Quade Green currently slated to be on the roster next season, Maxey would likely spend a lot of time off the ball if he ends up in Lexington.
