Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Quickies: Tournament Time Edition

UK gets swept by Florida, UK baseball wins again, SEC tournament draw, and more.

NCAA Basketball: Kentucky at Florida Matt Stamey-USA TODAY Sports

Hopefully the Kentucky Wildcats got their last bad performance out of their system because from here on out it’s lose and done. The Florida Gators looked significantly better than Kentucky for most of the game and the intensity that UK had showcased in their last four games was missing.

The Cats missed out on being the three seed in the SEC Tournament, but thanks to the Missouri Tigers beating the Arkansas Razorbacks, they clinched the four seed. The Cats still get a double bye and they play Friday at 3:30 PM.

Tweets of the Day

The media falling all over itself for Grayson Allen (again) actually made me feel like vomiting more than the loss to Florida did.

I was also wondering why Quade Green wasn’t more involved in the offense in the second half. He’s the best at running the point and he’s emerged as the Cats’ deadliest shooter.

Quickies

Kentucky gets spanked | Lexington Herald Leader- Quade Green threw some shots at Florida heading into Gainesville and his smack talk was thrown in his face. Honestly I love Quade’s confidence but I hope he pumps the brakes for the next few weeks.

Cats will “revert in a minute” | SEC Country- John Calipari lamented the lack of passing, the lack of effort, and the poor decision making yesterday. This team looked like the four game losing streak version of themselves.

Will bad habits follow UK into the SEC Tournament? | Courier-Journal- This is the $1,000,000 question. If the Cats play to their potential, I like them against any team in the SEC on a neutral court. Even Florida. Tennessee, not as much.

Calipari hopes loss to Florida is a wake-up call | CoachCal.com- Maybe this team was a little full of themselves and went into Florida with the wrong mindset. One more loss is all they needed to wake up, right?

P.J. Washington still optimistic about March | Lexington Herald Leader- To be totally honest, I am too. The loss yesterday means little in the scheme of things.

Minutes after Kentucky absorbed its most lopsided defeat of the regular season, PJ Washington spoke optimistically about the postseason.

“I feel we have a lot of stuff to work on,” he said after UK lost 80-67 at Florida on Saturday. “But we’re still in good position. I feel like if we work on these things and get better, we’ll make a deep run in March.”

I concur.

Cats continue to roll in Houston | UK Athletics- UK baseball were winners yesterday over #20 Sam Houston State 7-2. The #7 Wildcats move to 10-1. They close out the Shriners Children’s Classic today against Louisiana Lafayette at noon. Kentucky has outscored their opponents 21-4 thus far and have defeated two top 20 teams in a row.

Kentucky softball beats Ohio | UK Athletics- The Cats are winners of seven straight after beating the Bobcats 5-3. They take on Southeast Missouri State today at 4:00 PM.

UofL may have to shock the world to get an NCAA berth | WDRB- After falling to NC State last night, the Louisville Cardinals may be on the outside of the bubble. The Cards have lost 4 of their last 6 games and they don’t have many quality wins.

Michigan vs. Purdue in the Big 10 Tournament title game | CBS Sports- Top seed Michigan State fell to Michigan yesterday setting up a Boilermaker/Wolverine title game. Jim Beliien certainly has made his run in the Big 10 tournament in the last two seasons.

Kentucky a 5 in the latest bracketology | ESPN- Give me this draw RIGHT NOW!

Thad Matta gaining traction as next Ole Miss coach | CBS Sports- Matta at Ole Miss would be a great hire. He’s been to Final Fours and he’s coached lottery picks. The SEC continues to add to their coaching corral.
