Kentucky Wildcats Recruiting: Keldon Johnson confident that UK lands EJ Montgomery

Keldon Johnson is pretty confident that UK is going to get EJ Montgomery eventually.

The recruitment of EJ Montgomery remains one of the biggest offseason storylines in college basketball.

After all, Montgomery is believed to be picking between Duke and and UK, two schools that could be the preseason No. 1 and 2 teams when next season begins. North Carolina is also strongly in the mix, and they too could be a top-10 team next year, especially if they land Montgomery.

So, where does Keldon Johnson think Montgomery ends up?

The UK signee was hard at work recruiting Montgomery this week at the McDonald’s All-American Game. Apparently, Johnson is now very confident that UK is able to land Montgomery, as he told Ben Roberts of the Lexington Herald-Leader.

“He’s keeping it close, but I think he’s going to come to Kentucky,” Johnson said “So Big Blue Nation better get ready. I think he’s going to come.”

Getting Montgomery would be huge for UK in a variety of ways. The most obvious is adding a top-10 talent that could play power forward or center in college. UK has a big question mark at the 5 spot after Nick Richards was a big disappointment as a freshman, so getting Montgomery could ensure it’s not a weakness again.

Saying this, Montgomery is more of a 4, so perhaps he would stay there and move PJ Washington down to the 5. Some of UK’s best stretches this season came with Washington at the 5.

But that’s assuming Washington even returns to college, which isn’t a guarantee as he may test the NBA Draft waters.
