The recruitment of EJ Montgomery is one of the biggest offseason storylines for Kentucky Basketball.
The five-star power forward is arguably the best uncommitted player going into the spring signing period. He’s ranked as high as No. 6 overall by 247 Sports, so it’s no surprise to see the best college programs are in the running for him.
Duke is believed to be the favorite, but both North Carolina and Kentucky are strongly in the mix as well. During McDonald’s All-American Week, those were the three schools that various recruits predicted Montgomery would pick.
Rivals reporter Woody Wommack interviewed a host of recruits to see who they thought would land Montgomery, and Duke commit Tre Jones actually picked Kentucky.
To be fair to Jones, he admitted he wasn’t really sure what would happen, but as a Duke commit, you would think he’d just pick Duke by default if he really doesn’t know.
Kentucky ended up getting four predictions, and there were two “Duke or Kentucky” picks.
For what it’s worth, Montgomery’s 247 Crystal Ball is still all Duke picks ever since he decommitted from Auburn back in the fall, but there hasn’t been a prediction since Feb. 27.
This recruitment probably isn’t going to end anytime soon, especially if Montgomery is really considering Kentucky, who could have several players testing the draft waters into June.
It’s hard to see Montgomery picking Kentucky if they have PJ Washington, Jarred Vanderbilt, Wenyen Gabriel and Sacha Killeya-Jones back in the frontcourt, and that’s not even accounting for the small chance Kevin Knox returns for his sophomore season.
Where do you think Montgomery will end up?
